Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
In His great love, God finds countless and creative ways to make us aware of His abiding presence. At times, He reaches out to us through a friend who speaks words that touch our hearts. At other moments, He comes to us through both the joyful blessings and the painful trials of our lives. In ways seen and unseen, God continues to reveal Himself to us, for it is His deepest desire to draw us into a personal relationship with Him.
And yet, how do we often respond to these gentle manifestations of God? More often than not, we overlook them. We become so absorbed in what the world offers—wealth, power, possessions, and fleeting pleasures—that we fail to recognize the voice of God calling out to us. Little by little, we allow ourselves to be enslaved by the world, and in our busyness and distractions, we lose the ability to discern His presence in our daily lives.
It is only when sickness strikes, when we find ourselves standing just a few steps from death’s doorway, that we suddenly rush to seek God. Only then do we begin to make amends with those we have hurt. Only then do we try to straighten our ways and reorder our lives. Sadly, we often wait until we are broken before we realize how much we need Him.
But why must we wait for that moment? Why not listen now and draw closer to God while we are still in the pink of health? Why not deepen our relationship with Him today, while we still have the strength, the time, and the grace? Why not humble ourselves now before those we have offended and choose reconciliation and love? Why not turn away from every form of sinfulness at this very moment?
The Lord is already reaching out to us today, right now, in the ordinary moments of our lives. The question is not whether God is speaking, but whether we are willing to listen. Will we continue to delay our conversion, or will we respond to His loving call today and allow Him to transform our hearts while there is still time? – Marino J. Dasmarinas
