Gospel:
Matthew 5:33-37
Jesus
said to his disciples: "You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,
Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow. But I say
to you, do not swear at all; not by heaven, for it is God's throne; nor by the
earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the
great King. Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white
or black. Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No.' Anything more is
from the Evil One."

Reflection:
What is
the secret to a successful marriage? Simple and that is not to break the vows
of marriage that goes: I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in
sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my
life." This is basically one of the secret to a successful marriage.
Nowadays
the vows of marriage are violated with impunity this is the reason why many
marriages is being torn apart. But we have nothing to blame except ourselves for
many of us don’t value it anymore.
In our
gospel for this Saturday Jesus tells us to make good to the Lord all that we
have vowed and this surely include our marriage vows. Which we stated before
the Lord in the person of the priest who acts on behalf of Jesus.
Jesus
also tells us not to swear or promise. Why? For the simple reason that swears
and promises are made to be broken. Instead of swearing or promising let us
simply do what we have to do in doing so we gain the respect and admiration of
our fellowmen. In hindsight isn’t true that our actions speak louder than our
words?
In
married life or in any instance of life actions of love are always more
