Reflection for Tuesday October 7 Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary: Luke 10:38-42

Gospel: Luke 10:38-42
Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving?

Tell her to help me.” The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.

Reflection:
What makes us anxious, and what influences our worries? It’s our detachment from Jesus. When we are no longer attuned to His voice, we easily become overwhelmed by anxiety, fear, and restlessness.

This doesn’t mean that if we regularly spend time listening to Jesus, we would already be immune from life’s worries. We will still encounter our share of struggles because they are part of our human experience. However, when we are connected with Jesus, we find strength and calm amid the storms of life. He helps us handle and manage our daily pressures with peace in our hearts.

Jesus clearly favored Mary’s act of sitting at His feet and listening to Him. Why? Because it is more important to listen to Jesus first than to be consumed by other tasks. In the same way, our relationship with Him deepens when we spend more time in prayer and reflection. Through this, we receive not only His wisdom but also His blessings, enlightenment, and inner peace.

When we make it a habit to listen and pray to Jesus, we stay connected to the source of eternal power. We become more fruitful and useful in His service because His grace flows through us. Within us dwells the very source of life and strength—none other than Jesus Himself.

Just imagine a light bulb not connected to its power source. It will never shine, no matter how high its wattage. In the same way, our journey in this world becomes dark and meaningless if we are disconnected from Jesus.

Let us therefore stay plugged into the true source of light and strength. Let us make time each day to listen, pray, and dwell in His presence. For when we remain connected with Jesus, we will never walk in darkness—we will shine with His light.

Are we still connected to Jesus, or have we allowed the noise and worries of life to pull us away from Him who is our true source of peace and power? - Marino J. Dasmarinas
