Reflection for October 16 Friday of the 28th Week in Ordinary Time: Luke 12:1-7

Gospel: Luke 12:1-7
At that time so many people were crowding together that they were trampling one another underfoot. Jesus began to speak, first to his disciples, “Beware of the leaven–that is, the hypocrisy–of the Pharisees.

“There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed on the housetops. I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body but after that can do no more. I shall show you whom to fear.

Be afraid of the one who after killing has the power to cast into Gehenna; yes, I tell you, be afraid of that one. Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God. Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.”

Reflection:

Does God know everything about us?

Yes, God knows everything about us, including those sins that we think are known only to ourselves. Nothing is hidden from Him—not even the thoughts and desires we keep deep within our hearts. One reminder of this truth is our conscience, which troubles us whenever we do something wrong. These feelings may continue to bother us until we humbly ask for forgiveness and make amends to those whom we have hurt.

God is all-knowing and ever-present. He knows our weaknesses, our struggles, and even the sins we are afraid to reveal to others. Yet, despite knowing all our shortcomings, God continues to call us to repentance and invites us to return to Him. We must therefore turn away from sin while we still have the gift of time. Let us also strive to purify our minds and hearts of sinful thoughts and desires that can lead us away from His love.

It is far better for us to align our thoughts, words, and actions with God's will. Let us make Him the center of our daily lives, allowing His teachings to guide our decisions and His love to shape the way we treat others. We do not know when our earthly journey will end, but we can prepare ourselves by living faithfully, loving sincerely, forgiving generously, and seeking His mercy whenever we fall. May we always be ready to meet the Lord when our time in this world comes to an end, with the hope of dwelling with Him eternally.

However, we are weak human beings, and we sometimes fall into sin. There are times when we give in to temptation, allow our pride to overcome us, or hurt others through our words and actions. Nevertheless, our weaknesses do not have to define us. Through God's grace, sincere repentance, and a firm resolve to change, we can rise again and continue our journey toward holiness.

Let us never grow tired of asking the Lord to strengthen us, guide us, and give us the courage to resist sin. Whenever we stumble, may we humbly return to Him, trusting in His mercy and allowing His grace to transform our hearts.

Let us remember that God knows everything about us, yet He continues to love us and call us back to Him. While we still have the gift of time, let us not postpone our repentance or ignore the voice of our conscience. If God already knows our deepest thoughts, our hidden sins, and our every weakness, are we willing to open our hearts to Him today, turn away from sin, and live in such a way that we will be ready to meet Him when He calls us home?— Marino J.
