Reflection for Saturday September 27 Memorial of Saint Vincent de Paul, Priest: Luke 9:43b-45

Gospel: Luke 9:43b-45
While they were all amazed at his every deed, Jesus said to his disciples, “Pay attention to what I am telling you. The Son of Man is to be handed over to men.”

But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was hidden from them so that they should not understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

Reflection:
Do we sometimes find it difficult to understand the ways of the Lord in our lives? Every one of us perhaps experiences this kind of dilemma. For example, when we pass through severe testing, it may lead us to question God. Some of us may even say before Jesus: “Why do we have to go through this difficulty in our lives when we follow You?”

When we face these kinds of trials, we must remember that we are created beings of God with finite minds. As such, our intellect is limited, no matter how intelligent we may think we are. Thus, we will never be able to fully comprehend the ways of God. Instead, we are called to humbly submit to His will and firmly hold on to our faith in our infinite and loving God.

Therefore, when we encounter episodes in life that seem beyond our understanding, let us not be afraid to cry out to God and ask: “Why do we have to go through this trial?”

Yet after questioning Him, may we hold on even tighter to our faith and continue to believe that He has a greater purpose for allowing us to walk through these valleys of life. For in every difficulty, God is shaping us, strengthening us, and drawing us closer to Himself.

Will we allow our trials to weaken our faith, or will we let them deepen our trust in the God whose wisdom and love are far greater than ours? – Marino J. Dasmarinas
