Reflection for October 11 Saturday of the 27th Week in Ordinary Time: Luke 11:27-28

Gospel: Luke 11:27-28
While Jesus was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

Reflection:
How can we hear the healing voice of God? But does God speak to us in the first place? Yes, of course, God speaks to us when we pray. He speaks to us when we read the Scriptures or the Bible, when we piously attend Holy Mass, and when we spend quiet moments in the Adoration Chapel. God also speaks to us through the poor, the hungry, and the spiritually deprived.

But what do we do after hearing God speak to us? We must act. We need to translate our conversation with Him into concrete acts of faith and love. God’s voice is not meant to be stored only in our hearts or minds—it is meant to be lived out in our daily lives.

Many of us sometimes forget to have a daily interaction with Jesus. Sad to say, we often spend more time browsing social media, fiddling with our smartphones, and watching movies on Netflix, and other streaming platforms in front of our smart, high-definition televisions rather than listening to God. This is the reality: we often lack time for Him, and that’s why we carry so many unnecessary worries, baggage and anxieties.

But the moment we learn to truly hear and listen more to God, something beautiful happens. We begin to experience a peace that the world cannot give—even if we are not materially rich. Yes, problems may still come from time to time, but with God’s voice guiding us, we can rise above them. Why? Because our friendship with Him has grown deeper through our daily encounters and heartfelt conversations with Him.

If we can make time for our many earthly undertakings, why can’t we create time for God, who gives us everything we have? We gain wisdom, strength, and peace when we make space in our hearts for His voice and translate those divine whispers into concrete acts of faith, hope, and love.

Let us not allow the noise of this world to drown out the gentle voice of our loving God. When we choose to listen to Him, the worries of this world begin to lose their power over us.

Are we willing to quiet the noise around us so we can truly hear His healing voice? Are we ready to give God the time and space He deserves in our daily lives? — Marino J. Dasmarinas
