Reflection for April 12 Saturday of the Fifth Week of Lent: John 11:45-56

Gospel: John 11:45-56

Many of the Jews who had come to Mary and seen what Jesus had done began to believe in him. But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. So the chief priests and the Pharisees convened the Sanhedrin and said, “What are we going to do? This man is performing many signs. If we leave him alone, all will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our land and our nation.” 

But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing, nor do you consider that it is better for you that one man should die instead of the people, so that the whole nation may not perish. He did not say this on his own, but since he was high priest for that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, and not only for the nation, but also to gather into one the dispersed children of God.  

So from that day on they planned to kill him. So Jesus no longer walked about in public among the Jews, but he left for the region near the desert, to a town called Ephraim, and there he remained with his disciples. Now the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went up from the country to Jerusalem before Passover to purify themselves.

They looked for Jesus and said to one another as they were in the temple area, “What do you think? That he will not come to the feast?

Reflection:

What would be your reaction if someone you know achieved greatness? Would you envy them and eventually decide to bring them down? Or would you be happy for their success and even wish them more?

Because of His many miracles, Jesus was already becoming popular among the people, especially the poor. The ruling authorities (chief priests and the Pharisees) felt threatened by Jesus' growing popularity. So, they did what they thought was necessary to silence Him. They hatched an evil plan to kill Jesus, thinking that if He died, His popularity would die with Him. But it did not happen that way—their plan did not go as they intended.

What if the chief priest and the Pharisees had not envied Jesus? What if they had simply chosen to have a dialogue with Him so they could work hand in hand to help the poor? They could have been agents of positive change in the lives of the poor. But instead, they allowed the devil to sow envy and greed in their hearts. And so, they carried out a despicable plan to kill Jesus.

Can envy and greed do us any good?

No, they cannot. They will only push us to do evil, just as they did with the Pharisees. Let us therefore weed out any feeling of envy and greed in our hearts. Instead of being envious, let us be happy for those who succeed. Instead of being greedy, why not become generous? — Marino J. Dasmarinas

Ang Mabuting Balita Abril 12 Sabado sa Ikalimang Linggo ng Kuwaresma: Juan 11:45-56

Noong panahong iyon, marami sa mga Judiong dumalaw kay Maria ang nakakita sa ginawa ni Hesus, at nanalig sa kaniya. Ngunit ang ilan sa kanila’y pumunta sa mga Pariseo at ibinalita ang ginawa ni Hesus. Kaya’t tinipon ng mga punong saserdote at ng mga Pariseo ang mga kagawad ng Sanedrin. 

“Ano ang gagawin natin?” wika nila. “Gumagawa ng maraming kababalaghan ang taong ito. Kung siya’y pababayaan natin, mananampalataya sa kanya ang lahat. Paririto ang mga Romano at wawasakin ang Templo at ang ating bansa.”  Ngunit isa sa kanila, si Caifas, ang pinakapunong saserdote noon ay nagsabi ng ganito: “Ano ba kayo? Hindi ba ninyo naiisip na mas mabuti para sa atin na isang tao lamang ang mamatay alang-alang sa bayan, sa halip na mapahamak ang buong bansa?” 

Sinabi niya ito hindi sa ganang kanyang sarili lamang. Bilang pinakapunong saserdote ng panahong iyon, hinulaan niyang mamamatay si Hesus dahil sa bansa – at hindi dahil sa bansang iyon lamang, kundi upang tipunin ang nagkawatak-watak na mga anak ng Diyos. Mula noon, binalangkas na nila kung paano ipapapatay si Hesus, kaya’t hindi na siya hayagang naglakad sa Judea. Sa halip, siya’y nagpunta sa Efraim, isang bayang malapit sa ilang. At doon siya nanirahang kasama ng kanyang mga alagad.  

Nalalapit na ang Pista ng Paskuwa. Maraming taga-lalawigang pumunta sa Jerusalem bago mag-Paskuwa upang isagawa ang paglilinis ayon sa Kautusan. Hindi nila nakita si Hesus sa templo, kaya’t nagtanungan sila,”Ano sa akala ninyo? Paririto kaya sa pista o hindi?” Ipinag-utos ng mga punong saserdote at ng mga Pariseo na ituro ng sinumang nakaaalam kung nasaan si Hesus upang siya’y maipadakip nila. 

Reflection for April 11 Friday of the Fifth Week of Lent: John 10:31-42

Gospel: John 10:31-42

The Jews picked up rocks to stone Jesus. Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of these are you trying to stone me?” The Jews answered him, “We are not stoning you for a good work but for blasphemy. You, a man, are making yourself God.” 

Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, ‘You are gods”‘? If it calls them gods to whom the word of God came, and Scripture cannot be set aside, can you say that the one whom the Father has consecrated and sent into the world blasphemes because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? 

If I do not perform my Father’s works, do not believe me; but if I perform them, even if you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may realize and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” Then they tried again to arrest him; but he escaped from their power.  

He went back across the Jordan to the place where John first baptized, and there he remained. Many came to him and said, “John performed no sign, but everything John said about this man was true.” And many there began to believe in him.

Reflection:

How deep is your faith in Jesus? 

As we near Holy Week, we hear Jesus inviting us all to believe in Him. Why is He inviting us to believe in Him? Because He wants us all to be saved from the evils of this world. This is the primary reason why Jesus wants us to believe. 

We will not lose anything—except our sins, worldliness, and vices—if we choose to believe in and embrace Jesus. Everything is ours to gain, including eternal life, if we decide to finally believe and follow Him. 

Everything in this world is passing and temporary. In fact, we are not in control of our lives. We can even vanish from this world at any time—and this is the reality. Life is so fragile and fleeting. 

Jesus invites us to believe in Him, for this will serve as our security blanket—our assurance that no matter what happens in our lives, we are firmly secured in the loving arms of Jesus. Let us not gamble our lives in this world by embracing its many evils, which are attractively packaged to entice us. 

Let us embrace the love of Jesus, which He generously offers to us—free of any cost. In doing so, we secure not only our lives in this world but also our future life after this world.

Ang Mabuting Balita Abril 11 Biyernes sa Ikalimang Linggo ng Kuwaresma: Juan 10:31-42

Noong panahong iyon, ang mga Judio'y muling kumuha ng bato upang batuhin si Hesus. Kaya't sinabi sa kanila ni Jesus,: "Maraming mabubuting gawa mula sa Ama ang ipinakita ko sa inyo; alin ba sa mga ito ang dahilan at ako'y inyong babatuhin?" Sinagot siya ng mga Judio, "Hindi dahil sa mabuting gawa kaya ka namin babatuhin, kundi dahil sa paglapastangan mo sa Diyos! 

Sapagkat nagpapanggap kang Diyos gayong tao ka lang." Tumugon si Jesus, "Hindi ba nasusulat sa inyong Kautusan, 'Sinabi ko, Mga diyos kayo'? Mga diyos ang tawag sa Kautusan sa mga pinagkatiwalaan ng salita ng Diyos, at hindi maaaring tanggihan ang sinasabi ng Kasulatan. 

Ako'y hinirang at sinugo ng Ama; paano ninyong masasabi ngayon na nilalapastangan ko ang Diyos sa sinabi kong ako ang Anak ng Diyos? Kung hindi ko ginawa ang ipinagagawa ng aking Ama, huwag ninyo akong paniwalaan. Ngunit kung ginagawa ko iyon, paniwalaan ninyo ang aking mga gawa, kung ayaw man ninyo akong paniwalaan. Sa gayon, matitiyak ninyong nasa akin ang Ama at ako'y nasa kanya." 

Tinangka na naman nilang dakpin siya, ngunit siya'y nakatalilis. Muling pumunta si Jesus sa ibayo ng Jordan, sa pook na noong una'y pinagbabautismuhan ni Juan. Nanatili siya roon, at maraming lumapit sa kanya. Sinabi nila, "Si Juan ay walang ginawang kababalaghan, ngunit totoong lahat ang sinabi niya tungkol sa taong ito." At doo'y maraming sumampalataya kay Jesus.

Reflection for April 10 Thursday of the Fifth Week of Lent: John 8:51-59

Gospel: John 8:51-59

Jesus said to the Jews: “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever keeps my word will never see death.” So the Jews said to him, “Now we are sure that you are possessed. Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, ‘Whoever keeps my word will never taste death. Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? Or the prophets, who died?  

Who do you make yourself out to be?” Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is worth nothing; but it is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’ You do not know him, but I know him. And if I should say that I do not know him, I would be like you a liar.   

But I do know him and I keep his word. Abraham your father rejoiced to see my day; he saw it and was glad.  So the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham? Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I AM. So they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus hid and went out of the temple area.

Reflection:

How would you feel if a religious leader told you this: “If you follow me, you will never die”? You would not believe this leader for the simple reason that it is not true. 

Jesus, in the Gospel, tells us that anyone who keeps His word will never see death. 

What is this death that the Lord is speaking about? Obviously, this doesn’t pertain to physical death, for we will all die. The death that Jesus is alluding to is spiritual death. We are taught by our faith that when we die, our mortal remains will decay. And we are also taught that if we have a close and personal relationship with Jesus, our spirit will continue to live, for it does not die along with our mortal body. 

None of us has been to the afterlife, but this one thing is true: we will not be afraid to pass through physical death if we are close to Jesus and if we have a personal relationship with Him, because we know that everlasting life will only come after our mortal death. 

Mortal death is our launching pad to eternal life. But we have to believe in Jesus first, and we have to have a personal relationship with Him in order for us not to experience spiritual death. The Jews in our Gospel reading were critics of Jesus, and as such, they did not believe in Him—much less have a personal relationship with Him.

Noong panahong iyon, sinabi ni Jesus sa mga Judio: "Tandaan ninyo: ang namumuhay ayon sa aking aral, kailanma'y di makararanas ng kamatayan." Sinabi ng mga Judio, "Ngayo'y natitiyak naming inaalihan ka nga ng demonyo. Namatay si Abraham, at ang mga propeta, pero sinasabi mong hindi mamamatay kahit kailan ang sinumang namumuhay ayon sa iyong aral. Dakila ka pa ba kaysa aming amang si Abraham? Siya'y namatay, gayon din ang mga propeta. Ano ba ang akala mo sa sarili mo?" 

Sumagot si Jesus, "Kung ako ang nagpaparangal sa aking sarili, iya'y walang kabuluhan. Ang aking Ama ang nagpaparangal sa akin at sinasabi ninyong siya ang inyong Diyos. Hindi ninyo sila nakikilala, ngunit siya'y nakikilala ko. Kung sabihin kong hindi ko siya nakikilala, ako'y magigng sinungaling tulad ninyo. Subalit nakikilala ko siya at ginagawa ko ang kanyang sinasabi. 

Natuwa ang inyong amang si Abraham nang mabatid na makikita niya ang araw ng pagparito ko; nakita nga niya ito at siya'y nagalak." Dahil dito'y sinabi sa kanya ng mga Judio, "Wala ka pang limampung taon, at nakita mo na si Abraham?" Sumagot si Jesus, "Sinasabi ko sa inyo: bago ipanganak si Abraham 'Ako'y Ako Na'. Dumampot sila ng bato upang siya'y batuhin, ngunit nagtago si Jesus at lumabas ng templo.

Reflection for April 9 Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Lent: John 8:31-42

Gospel: John 8:31-42

Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him, “If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are descendants of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say, ‘You will become free’?” Jesus answered them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.  

A slave does not remain in a household forever, but a son always remains. So if the Son frees you, then you will truly be free. I know that you are descendants of Abraham. But you are trying to kill me, because my word has no room among you. I tell you what I have seen in the Father’s presence; then do what you have heard from the Father.” 

They answered and said to him, “Our father is Abraham.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing the works of Abraham. But now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God; Abraham did not do this. You are doing the works of your father!”

So they said to him, “We were not born of fornication. We have one Father, God.” Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and am here; I did not come on my own, but he sent me.”

Reflection:

What would happen to us if we decide to faithfully follow Jesus?
Jesus will set us free from all forms of worldliness. He will open our minds to the deeper truths of life and our faith. He will help us appreciate that our life in this world is just a bridge we must cross to reach His kingdom.

But there’s a condition for us to attain this enlightenment: we must always choose to remain in the company of Jesus. We should not believe the many lies of the devil, no matter how attractive and tempting they may be.

However, why is it that many still choose this world over Jesus? They do so for the simple reason that they are more comfortable with the material and sinful offerings of this world. They do so because they have not allowed the teachings of Jesus to take root in their hearts—until they get sick or encounter a crucial event in their lives that forces them to seek God.

Let us not wait for that crucial moment to come before we choose to be faithful to Jesus. Let us do it now while we are still healthy and in full control of our physical and mental faculties.

Let us, therefore, decide to embrace Jesus now and leave behind our sinfulness while we still have the luxury of time. Let us not wait for tomorrow, for tomorrow may already be too late. —Marino J. Dasmarinas

Noong panahong iyon, sinabi ni Hesus sa mga Judiong naniniwala sa kanya, “Kung patuloy kayong susunod sa aking aral, tunay ngang kayo’y mga alagad ko; makikilala ninyo ang katotohanan, at ang katotohanan ang magpapalaya sa inyo.” Lahi kami ni Abraham,” tugon nila, “at kailanma’y di kami naalipin ninuman. Paano mo masasabing palalayain kami?” 

Sumagot si Hesus, “Tandaan ninyo: alipin ng kasalanan ang lahat ng nagkakasala. Ang alipin ay hindi kabilang sa sambahayan sa habang panahon, subalit ang anak ay kabilang magpakailanman. Kapag kayo’y pinalaya ng Anak, tunay nga kayong malaya. 

Nalalaman kong lahi kayo ni Abraham; gayunma’y pinagsisikapan ninyo akong patayin, sapagkat walang pitak sa inyong puso ang aral ko. Sinasabi ko ang aking nakita sa aking Ama; ginagawa naman ninyo ang inyong narinig sa inyong ama.”

Sumagot sila, “Si Abraham ang aming ama.” “Kung kayo’y mga anak ni Abraham, tutularan ninyo ang kanyang ginawa,” ani Hesus. “Ngunit pinagsisikapan ninyo akong patayin, gayong sinasabi ko lamang ang katotohanang narinig ko sa Diyos. 

Hindi ganyan ang ginawa ni Abraham. Ang ginagawa ninyo’y tulad ng ginawa ng inyong ama.” “Hindi kami mga anak sa labas,” tugon nila. “Ang Diyos ang aming Ama.” Sinabi ni Hesus, “Kung talagang ang Diyos ang inyong Ama, iibigin ninyo ako, sapagkat nagmula ako sa Diyos. Hindi ako naparito sa ganang sarili ko lamang, kundi sinugo niya ako.”

Reflection for April 8 Tuesday of the Fifth Week of Lent: John 8:21-30

Gospel: John 8:21-30

Jesus said to the Pharisees: “I am going away and you will look for me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come.” So the Jews said, “He is not going to kill himself, is he, because he said, ‘Where I am going you cannot come’?” He said to them, “You belong to what is below, I belong to what is above.  

You belong to this world, but I do not belong to this world. That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins.” So they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “What I told you from the beginning. I have much to say about you in condemnation. But the one who sent me is true, and what I heard from him I tell the world.”  

They did not realize that he was speaking to them of the Father. So Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will realize that I AM, and that I do nothing on my own, but I say only what the Father taught me. The one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, because I always do what is pleasing to him.” Because he spoke this way, many came to believe in him.

Reflection:

What does sin do to us?

It separates us from the infinite love of God. The more we sin, the more we widen the distance between us and God. 

Why do we sin?

We sin because we succumb to the devil’s temptation. But we are not beyond redemption, for we have someone who is always there to save us from the bondage of sin — and He is no other than Jesus. 

The moment we submit ourselves to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we allow Jesus to extricate us from the bondage of sin. We allow Jesus to heal whatever wounds we have created by our sinfulness. 

As we get closer to the holiest of weeks, the Church is slowly but surely bringing us closer to Jesus. For what reason? To help us realize the great love and sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross. Jesus died for us — He didn’t have to, but He gave His life out of love for us. 

At the end of the day, it is still up to us whether we want to permanently separate ourselves from the love of Jesus or go to Him and accept His offer of salvation. Jesus is always there, waiting for us, ever ready to forgive whatever sins we have committed.

Mabuting Balita: Juan 8:21-30

Noong panahong iyon, sinabi ni Hesus sa mga Pariseo: "Ako'y yayaon; hahanapin ninyo ako, ngunit mamamatay kayo sa inyong mga kasalanan. Hindi kayo makapupunta sa paroroonan ko." Sinabi ng mga Judio, "Magpapakamatay kaya siya kaya niya sinasabing, 'Hindi kayo makapupunta sa paroroonan ko'?" 

Sumagot si Jesus, "Kayo'y taga ibaba ako'y taga itaas. Kayo'y taga sanlibutang ito, ako'y hindi. Kaya sinasabi ko sa inyo na mamamatay kayo sa inyong mga kasalanan. Mamamatay nga kayo sa inyong mga kasalanan kung hindi kayo maniniwalang 'Ako'y si Ako nga'."

"Sino ka ba?" tanong nila. Sumagot si Jesus, "Ako'y yaong sinabi ko na sa inyo mula pa noong una. Marami akong masasabi at maihahatol laban sa inyo. Ngunit totoo ang sinasabi ng nagsugo sa akin, at ang narinig ko sa kanya ang ipinapahayag ko sa sanlibutan." 

Hindi nila nauunawaan na siya'y nagsasalita tungkol sa Ama. Kaya't sinabi ni Jesus, "Kapag naitaas na ninyo ang Anak ng Tao, malalaman ninyong 'Ako'y si Ako nga.' Wala akong ginagawa sa ganang sarili ko lamang; nagsasalita ako ayon sa itinuturo sa akin ng Ama.

At kasama ko ang nagsugo sa akin; hindi niya ako iniwan, sapagkat lagi kong ginagawa ang nakalulugod sa kanya." Marami sa nakarinig nito ang nainiwala sa kanya.

Reflection for April 7 Monday of the Fifth Week of Lent: John 8:12-20

Gospel: John 8:12-20

Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” So the Pharisees said to him, “You testify on your own behalf, so your testimony cannot be verified.” 

Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I do testify on my own behalf, my testimony can be verified, because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you do not know where I come from or where I am going. You judge by appearances, but I do not judge anyone. 

And even if I should judge, my judgment is valid, because I am not alone, but it is I and the Father who sent me. Even in your law it is written that the testimony of two men can be verified. I testify on my behalf and so does the Father who sent me.” So they said to him, “Where is your father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. 

If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” He spoke these words while teaching in the treasury in the temple area. But no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.

Reflection:

Would you allow Jesus to be your guiding light in this world? 

Jesus boldly proclaims that He is the light of the world. He further adds that whoever among us decides to follow Him will no longer walk in darkness but will have the light of life. This declaration of Jesus is always true, always timely, and always significant in our lives. 

If only we would care to listen, we would discover that a worthy life in this world is a life centered on Jesus—not centered upon this world. Many make the mistake of letting this world dictate to them, instead of them dictating to this world. In the end, they live empty and meaningless lives. 

Many are walking in darkness today because they don’t have Jesus in their lives. We may have all the material wealth and earthly power, but it amounts to nothing if we don’t have Jesus. 

What good is it to have all the earthly riches and influence, yet not have Jesus in our lives? Instead of following the dictates of this world—which only lead us to worldliness, sin, and emptiness—let us follow the light of Jesus. – Marino J. Dasmarinas

Ang Mabuting Balita Abril 7 Lunes sa Ikalimang Linggo ng Kuwaresma: Juan 8:12-20

Sinabi ni Jesus sa mga Judio: “Ako ang liwanag ng mundo. Magkakaroon ng liwanag ng buhay ang sumusunod sa akin at hinding-hindi lalakad sa karimlan.”Sinabi kung gayon sa kanya ng mga Pariseo: “Ikaw ang nagpapatotoo sa iyong sarili. Hindi mapanghahawakan ang patotoo mo.” 

Sumagot si Jesus sa kanila: “Kung ako man ay nagpapatotoo sa aking sarili, mapanghahawakan naman ang patotoo ko, sapagkat alam ko kung saan ako galing at kung pasaan ako. Pero hindi n’yo alam kung saan ako galing o kung pasaan ako. Naghuhukom kayo ayon sa kaya ng laman; hindi ko hinuhukuman ang sinuman. 

Kung sakali ma’t ako’y maghuhukom, mapanghahawakan ang paghuhukom ko sapagkat hindi ako nag-iisa, kundi ako pati na ang Amang nagsugo sa akin. “Nasusulat sa Batas n’yo na tama ang pagtotoo ng dalawang tao. Ako ang nagpatotoo sa aking sarili at nagpapatotoo tungkol sa akin ang Amang nagsugo sa akin.” 

Kaya sinabi nila sa kanya: “Nasaan ba ang Ama mo?” Sumagot si Jesus: “Ni ako o ang aking Ama ay hindi n’yo kilala. Kung kilala n’yo ako, kilala n’yo rin sana ang aking Ama.”

Binigkas ni Jesus ang mga pananalitang ito sa may Kabangyaman nang nangaral siya sa Templo. At walang dumakip sa kanya, sapagkat hindi pa sumasapit ang oras niya.

Reflection for April 6 Fifth Sunday of Lent: John 8:1-11

Gospel: John 8:1-11

Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. But early in the morning he arrived again in the temple area, and all the people started coming to him, and he sat down and taught them. Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her stand in the middle. 

They said to him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” 

They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him.

Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger. But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he bent down and wrote on the ground.

And in response, they went away one by one, beginning with the elders. So he was left alone with the woman before him. Then Jesus straightened up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Reflection:

Are you a person who is quick to judge?

Many of us like to judge others without realizing that when we judge, we also invite others to judge us. This is our weakness—we are very quick to judge. But what authority do we have to judge and condemn others?

We are quick to judge because we have a mindset of superiority. This mindset compels us to judge those who sin. Otherwise, if we do not have this sense of superiority, we will not judge. Instead, we offer advice or counsel, as this is the best way to help those who have sinned. Well and good if sinners follow our advice; if not, it is up to them.

Judgment or condemnation will never heal a sinner; in fact, it may push them deeper into sin until it ultimately destroys them.

In the Gospel, the woman caught in adultery was very blessed because her accusers brought her to Jesus. Otherwise, if she had been taken somewhere else, she would have been immediately killed by the arrogance of her accusers. But thanks be to God, Jesus was there to save and protect her.

To whom do you turn for shelter and solace when you are condemned and unfairly judged by the people of this world, or when you are burdened by the worries of life? —Marino J. Dasmarinas

Ang Mabuting Balita at Repleksyon para sa Abril 6 Ikalimang Linggo ng Kuwaresma: Juan 8:1-11

Mabuting Balita: Juan 8:1-11

Noong panahong iyon, si Hesus ay pumunta sa Bundok ng mga Olibo. Kinaumagaha’y nagbalik siya sa templo. Lumapit sa kanya ang lahat, kaya’t umupo siya at sila’y tinuruan. Noo’y dinala sa kanya ng mga eskriba at ng mga Pariseo ang isang babaing nahuli sa pakikiapid. 

Pinatayo ito sa harapan nila, at sinabi kay Hesus, “Guro, ang babaing ito’y nahuli sa pakikiapid. Ayon sa Kautusan ni Moises, dapat batuhinhanggang sa mamatay ang mga gaya niya.

  

Ano ang masasabi mo?” Itinanong nila ito upang subukin siya, nang may maisumbong sila laban sa kanya. Ngunit yumuko si Hesus at sumulat sa lupa sa pamamagitan ng daliri. Ayaw nilang tigilan nang katatanong si Hesus, kaya’t sila’y tiningnan niya at sinabi ang ganito, “Sinuman sa inyo na walang kasalanan ang siyang maunang bumato sa kanya.” At muli siyang yumuko at sumulat sa lupa.   

Nang marinig nila ito, sila’y isa-isang umalis, simula sa pinakamatanda. Walang naiwan kundi si Hesus at ang babaing naroon pa rin sa harapan niya. Tiningnan siya ni Hesus at tinanong: “Nasaan sila? Wala bang nagparusa sa iyo?” “Wala po, Ginoo,” sagot ng babae. Sinabi ni Hesus: “Hindi rin kita parurusahan. Humayo ka, at huwag nang magkasala.”

Repleksyon:

Ikaw ba ay isang taong madaling maghusga? Marami sa atin ang mabilis humusga sa iba pero  kapag tayo’y humuhusga, iniimbitahan din natin ang iba na husgahan tayo. Diba pag ang ating hintuturo ay itinuturo natin ang tatlong daliri natin ay nakaturo pabalik sa atin?  Ito ang ating kahinaan—napakadali nating humusga. Ngunit anong kapangyarihan ang mayroon tayo upang hatulan at kondenahin ang iba?

Mabilis tayong humusga dahil sa tingin natin tayo ay mas malinis sa ating hinuhusgahan. Ang ganitong kaisipan ang nagtutulak sa atin na hatulan ang mga tinatawag nating makasalanan. Kung wala tayong ganitong pag-iisip ng pagiging nakatataas, hindi tayo manghuhusga.

Sa halip, magbibigay tayo ng payo o paggabay, sapagkat ito ang pinakamainam na paraan upang matulungan ang mga nagkasala. Mabuti kung susundin ng makasalanan ang ating payo; ngunit kung hindi, nasa kanya na iyon. Bast ang importante ay nagbigay tayo ng payo hindi ng pag kondena.

Ang paghatol o pagkondena ay hindi kailanman nakabubuti sa isang makasalanan; dahil, maaari pa itong magtulak sa kanya ng mas malalim pa na pagkakasala hanggang sa tuluyang masira ang kanyang buhay.

Sa atin pong mabuting balita, napakapalad ng babaeng nahuling nangangalunya dahil dinala siya ng kanyang mga tagapag-akusa kay Jesus. Kung dinala siya sa ibang tao, maaaring agad siyang pinatay dahil sa pag kondena ng kanyang mga tagapag-akusa. Ngunit salamat sa Diyos, dinala nila siya kay Jesus kaya siya ay nabigyan ng pagkakataon na mag bagong buhay.

Kanino ka ba lumalapit upang humanap ng magtatanggol saiyo kapag ikaw ay kinokondena at hinuhusgahan nang ng mga tao sa mundong ito? O kapag ikaw ay may pinapasan na mabigat na problema sa iyong buhay? – Marino J. Dasmarinas
