I am with you always until the end of this world - Jesus (Matthew 28:20).

Preach the Word in season and out of season reproving, rebuking or advising always with patience and providing instructions (2 Timothy 4:2).

Do not fear, Mary, for God has looked kindly on you (Luke 1:30).

Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. - G. K. Chesterton

Reflection for Friday June 9, Ninth Week in Ordinary Time: Mark 12:35-37

Mark 12:35-37
As Jesus was teaching in the temple area he said, “How do the scribes claim that the Christ is the son of David? David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit, said: The Lord said to my lord,‘Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies under your feet.’ David himself calls him ‘lord’; so how is he his son?”The great crowd heard this with delight.

Son of David, Messiah and Christ these three names have a common denominator one way or the other it means Savior. And who else is this savior? It’s none other than Jesus but unlike our common notion of a savior who comes in with swashbuckling powers ala superman. Jesus our savior has none of those kinds of powers.

His power is derived in His being powerless and His heroic action is not shown with swaggering exploits. It is rather shown in his humility and self sacrifice. Let us reflect and ponder on this seemingly powerless Jesus on the cross and let us discover His hidden powers. Powers like love, humility and self-sacrifice

During the time of Jesus, the scribes were Jewish scholars and teachers of law they didn’t believe that Jesus is both human and divine. To them Jesus is only human and as they claim the human Jesus is a descendant of King David.

But David inspired by the Holy Spirit called Him Lord, Jesus was indirectly telling the Jews that if David called Him Lord. Then they should also believe in Him as the Son of God not as a son of David.

Unlike the Jews, we believe that Jesus is the Son of God; we believe that Jesus is both human and Divine. Though Jesus is the Son of God, He became human and died on the cross for us. – Marino J. Dasmarinas
